Optical spectra of endodontically treated teeth of B-17 strain rats with dentin caries by the infrared techniques. Rat's endodontically treated teeth were examined to determine which components of the dentin contained the most affected regions by carious lesions. Rat's first molars were endodontically treated and examined for carious changes in hard tissue. Unstained sections were analyzed by means of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to determine the extent of loss of the chemical components of the tooth. Bone tissue as well as normal dentin and carious dentin were quantified in terms of the percentage of the absorptions of all peaks in the 900-1850 cm-1 region. The carious dentin was significantly higher than normal dentin in terms of the total absorption by the mid-infrared region (1200-1800 cm-1) and specific peak intensity of the CH2 asymmetric stretch, CH2 symmetric stretch, C-H deformation, PO2 asymmetric stretch, and PO2 symmetric stretch. The % absorption of the soft tissue of the carious lesions was significantly lower than normal soft tissues. FTIR spectroscopy showed that carious dentin is significantly different from normal dentin with respect to its component chemical components. These results indicate that a histologic and biochemical analysis may be possible to distinguish between carious and normal dentin.//===----------------------------------------------------------------------===// // // The LLVM Compiler Infrastructure // // This file ac619d1d87
